Week 11 - 17th June

This week, we will be basing our learning on a short film. Watch 'A Cloudy Lesson' (below) before beginning this week's activities.

A Cloudy Lesson

This week we will be learning about the properties of different 2D and 3D shapes. The learning challenges are set up slightly differently this week. Rather than there being three different challenge levels, there will be a main activity and then an optional extra challenge. This will ensure that the children will be confident with all of the different properties of shapes which they need to understand. Each day, there is an explanation of which parts of the main activity to complete for an easier challenge.

Lesson 1 - Count sides and vertices on 2D shapes

For an easier challenge, just do pages 1 and 3 of the main activity.

Lesson 2 - Count faces, edges and verticies on 3D shapes

For an easier challenge, just do pages 1, 3 and 5 of the main activity.
For an easier challenge, just do pages 1 and 3 of the main activity.

Lesson 3 - Sorting 2D and 3D shapes

For an easier challenge, just do pages 1 and 3 of the main activity.

Lesson 4 - Patterns with 2D and 3D shapes

Lesson 5 - Practise Skills

Now that you are experts on 2D and 3D shapes, try the activities below. You will need all of your learning from this week.

Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar

Watch the video below to learn about the capital cities of each of the countries which make up the UK. If you have a grown up to help you, you can ask them to help you with the activity below the video. It will enable you to investigate lots of maps starting with the world, then Europe and then the UK. Your grown up will be able to talk to you about what the different maps are showing.

Once you have watched the video, click HERE to go on Google Earth. Zoom in and out to look at the world. Once you have zoomed out, can you find the UK? Can you find Andover? Can you find London? Can you find Cardiff? Can you find Edinburgh? Can you find Belfast?

Geography - UK Capitals

Click HERE to open JIT5 Turtle. To begin, you could remind yourself of last week's learning using the space template and simple mode. Now tick the advanced mode button. What is the difference? (The rocket doesn't move until play is clicked). You need to think carefully about their code and check that it works. This will give you the opportunity to debug.

Main Activities

Task 1- Using the big bad wolf template move the wolf to each house in turn. What happens at each house?

Task 2- Click on the * button, then scroll down until you find the Cinderella template. You need to program Cinderella to move to the pumpkin, cat and mouse to find out what happens to them. You can experiment with editing your code and debugging your algorithms.

Press the + to choose the rowing boat sprite and two or more sharks. Write algorithms to make the sharks chase and catch the rowing boat at the same time. You might want to click on the star and choose the 'blank' template for this.

HERE is an online lesson you might enjoy.
