Year One Welcomes You!

Frequently asked Questions

There were some great questions asked at the online Q&A Session. We thought we would pop up some of the questions we answered on here in case you were unable to make the session yesterday.

What time is drop off and pick up in September?

Doors will open at 8.45 in the morning and the register will close at 8.55 am.

Pick up will be 3.15.

Do I need to provide my child with a snack?

You do not need to provide your child with a snack, the Federation will provide fruit daily. If you would still like your child to have milk in September, please follow the link on our website, Parents/Essential Information/School Milk.

Will there still be discovery time in Year One?

Yes! For the first few weeks at least there will still be discovery time. We only move the children to a more structured timetable once they are settled and happy.

Is there homework in Year One?

Yes. Homework is set via google classroom on Wednesdays and is due back the following Monday. The spelling normally compromises of a spelling/phonics activity as well as a Maths activity. Sometimes we mix it up and have home projects linked to our learning theme!

Do we have a theme for the first half term yet?

Yes! We will be starting the first half term looking at traditional tales. We will be starting with Humpty Dumpty, before moving onto a contemporary alternative called "After the Fall" by Dan Santat. We will be investigating the best material to design a suit to protect Humpty Dumpty from his fall in Science.

Where do I drop my child off in September?

In the Year One area there are three doors. The door at the end nearest the Juniors is Heron class. The door in the middle is Robin class. Tawny class go enter through a door to the left of the Infant school office, just round the corner from the other classrooms.
